How to sign up for a volunteer shift

How to sign up

  1. On the calendar or event list, click on event you’re interested in.

  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the event info and click on the "SignUp Genius" link. The signup page will open in a popup window. (You may need to enable popups for SignUp Genius on your browser.)

  3. Check the box for the available shift you want to volunteer for.

  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “Submit and Sign Up”.

  5. You will receive an automatic confirmation email from info@signupgenius.com.*

  6. SignUp Genius will automatically notify the Volunteer Coordinator of signups, changes and cancellations.

*Check your Junk Mail folder if you don't see the confirmation email in your inbox. Keep the email for reference so you use the link to easily check your shift time or other details, cancel or change your shift, or swap with another volunteer. (You can also use the link on the calendar to do so.)

What to look for

  • Date, time and location (It's a good idea to check your time zone at Settings > Other, too.)

  • Links with more information about the event, venue or requirements.

  • Dress code - If you don’t already have a TD NJF volunteer T-shirt, please let the Volunteer Coordinator know in advance what size you need when you sign up for a shift that requires it. (T-shirts are in men’s sizes only, and currently all that’s left are L and XL, sorry...) If the the dress code is “upscale black with green accents”, all black is also fine if you don’t have anything in those colours!

  • Requirements such as Smart Serve (for serving alcohol) or police check - If there is a requirement, there will be a link with more information about how to get it.

  • Square - If you have an Apple or Android smartphone, please consider downloading the Square app so that you can process credit card sales of tickets and merchandise. (The Executive Director will log you in to the festival's account.) There will be a cardreader, which fits into your phone’s earphone jack, in the cashbox.

  • Pickup/dropoff responsibilities - If you sign up for the first or last shift, you will often be responsible for a “pickup” or “dropoff” at a private residence in the North End of St. Catharines. You will need a vehicle, and will be picking up or dropping off a volunteer kit and signage, as well as (usually) merchandise and a float and (sometimes) a tent and table, etc. There may occasionally be pickups in other locations. The time your shift starts is the time you should be at the pickup location, and the time your shift ends allows for time to drop off the gear.

Please note that you must have previously volunteered with the festival in order to do sign up for a "pickup" shift.

There are no pickup/dropoff shifts during the festival weekend.
